8 people injured, including a 3-year-old after a traffic collision in San Diego (San Diego, CA)

On Tuesday afternoon, 8 people received injuries, including a 3-year-old following a traffic collision in San Diego.

As per the initial information, the two-vehicle accident at the Fresheria restaurant in the 4600 block of Logan Avenue took place at around noon. The preliminary reports showed that a Mustang went through a red light in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of San Diego on Tuesday afternoon and broadsided another car that was then sent into a nearby restaurant, causing injuries to several people, including a 3-year-old.

Eight people were transported to hospitals for treatment following the collision, including a driver and passenger in the sedan and six restaurant customers. A child among the customers was shifted to Rady Children’s Hospital. The toddler is believed to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Five of the others injured victims went to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest. The remaining patients were transported to UC Medical Center, which is also in Hillcrest. Six of the people received serious injuries, including a customer who had a broken pelvis.

The reports also revealed that at least one of the drivers ran away from the scene on foot after the crash, but was detained a short distance away. The reports also added that a 2009 red Mustang drove through the light and struck a sedan as it crossed the intersection on Logan Avenue, pushing that car up onto the sidewalk and into the restaurant while the Mustang remained in the street, steam or smoke billowing from its engine compartment.

Following the wreck, the car remained inside the sandwich shop/juice bar with its driver-side door open, windshield crushed and rear-view mirror damaged. On the other side of the business, yellow caution tape was strung up that was closing the entrance. Out on the street on Logan Avenue, the Mustang was still where it came to a stop in the lane closest to the restaurant with its nose pointing the wrong way, engine compartment wrecked and driver’s side badly damaged.

The Mustang driver, who was only identified as a 60-year-old woman, ran away from the scene and was arrested nearby. She is facing a felony hit-and-run charge.

The incident remains under active review.
