On Saturday, a 77-year-old Everett woman lost her life after a fiery crash on State Route 525.
As per the initial information, the fatal head-on collision took place at 1 p.m. on Campbell Road. The preliminary reports showed that a Ford Explorer driven by a 39-year-old woman came off the Mukilteo-Clinton ferry. The reports further stated that she was driving erratically when her vehicle collided with a Mercedes head-on.
The Mercedes driver, only identified as a 78-year-old Everett man, received critical injuries as a result of the accident. On arrival, first responders rushed him to Providence Hospital in Everett. The Mercedes’ passenger, a 77-year-old Everett woman, succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The reports also added that she had to be freed from the vehicle by the emergency crews.
The Explorer’s driver was found outside of her vehicle. It was unknown if she was ejected from the vehicle during the crash or escaped on her own. Her Explorer had also burst into flames due to the crash. She was transported to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. Authorities believe that alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. No other details are available.
The incident remains under investigation.
