77-year-old man dead after slamming his car into Clinton Twp. floral shop (Clinton Township, MI)

On Wednesday afternoon, a 77-year-old man lost his life after he slammed his car into a building on Northbound Gratiot Avenue in northeast Clinton Township.

The preliminary reports showed that the victim, only identified as a 77-year-old Clinton Township man, was driving alone in his car at around 3:45 p.m. on Gratiot near Stragier Drive, which is a few blocks south of Hall Road (M-59) when the incident happened.

The reports further revealed that his vehicle veered off the roadway for unknown reasons, hit a parking block and continued traveling until it rammed into the former Stragier’s Sunbright Flowers. On arrival, first responders rushed the elderly motorist to an area hospital, where he was later declared deceased. An autopsy is scheduled to help investigators find out if the man was intoxicated or had a medical condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
