The Nashville Police Department reported a motor vehicle crash on Friday night.

William Smith Jr., 76, of Waterloo, Iowa, the grandfather of linebacker Jack Campbell was reportedly struck by a hotel passenger van.

There were eight people in the van, including the driver, but no one was hurt.

According to the police, Smith and his family were crossing West End Avenue at 10:15 p.m. Smith did not seem to hear the warning from a member of his family telling him not to cross because of the traffic.

At the time of the accident, it was pouring rain.

To the west of the collision, 58 yards, there was the closest crosswalk.

Smith died after being taken to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The van driver is not expected to face any charges for the fatal crash.
