Authorities identified 75-year-old Barbara Guth as the woman who lost her life following a two-vehicle collision that also caused injuries to 85-year-old Heintz Guth and 22-year-old Ashlie Resendes on Wednesday in Merced.
The authorities actively responded to the area of Ashby Road and Cooper Avenue after 12:30 p.m. in response to a car crash. The investigation reports showed that Guth was a passenger in a 2019 Volkswagen that was driven by 85-year-old Heintz Guth.
The Volkswagen was facing southbound on Cooper Avenue and came to a stop at the intersection of Ashby Road, when it was hit by a 2019 Nissan driven by 22-year-old Ashlie Resendes of Fresno. The reports further revealed that Resendes was driving west on Ashby Road when for undetermined reasons, she turned the vehicle to the north and into the southbound lane of Cooper Avenue.
The front of the Nissan struck the left side of the Volkswagen, causing it to roll over onto the shoulder of Cooper Avenue. Barbara Guth suffered received major injuries and was pronounced dead while Heintz Guth and Resendes were taken to Mercy Medical Center with minimal injuries. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
