The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle crash in Echo Park. The accident happened at Cross St and Glendale Blvd at around 1 p.m.
A woman was fatally injured and transported to hospital in critical condition. She was declared dead later at the hospital.
Officials identified her as Maria Esther Valdiva, 74, the matriarch of a well-known taqueria in Silver Lake.
According to a news release from the police, the driver of the 1999 Mercedes-Benz E320 stopped to help Valdivia, cooperated with the investigation, and did not exhibit any signs of intoxication.
