Authorities identified 74-year-old Joe D Long as the man who lost his life after a two-vehicle collision Wednesday in Nashville.
As per the initial information, the fatal car accident took place at 12:15 p.m. on Briley Parkway north near the Centennial Boulevard exit. The preliminary reports showed that a Ford Fusion and a chipper truck were involved in the wreck.
The reports further revealed that Long’s Fusion was either stopped or going at a very low speed when the truck rounded a curve and rear-ended it. Due to the impact, the car was sent onto the right shoulder and then into a ditch. Long was trapped in the car and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Long’s two adult children managed to get out of the car. They were taken to a hospital with non-critical injuries. One of them informed officers that the car was having problems, was unable to travel above 15 mph, and that Long was trying to get it home. The truck driver stated that he was unable to avoid the collision. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
