The New Mexico State Police reported a motor vehicle crash on Sunday morning. The accident happened on I- 25, north of Lemitar at around 11 a.m.
According to the preliminary investigation, an SUV model year 2007 Jeep was moving south on Interstate 25. There was a 2015 Nissan passenger car following the Jeep. The Nissan rear-ended the Jeep for unknown reasons, causing the Jeep to topple over.
The Office of the Medical Investigator declared Patricia Despain, 73, of Holbrook, Arizona, dead at the scene after she was found in the Jeep with fatal injuries. The drivers of the Nissan and the Jeep were both taken to a nearby hospital.
There was no evidence of alcohol in this crash, and the seatbelts appeared to have been worn correctly.
The New Mexico State Police is conducting an investigation into this fatal crash.
