The Murrieta Police Department reported a bicycle accident on Sunday. The accident occurred on Whitewood Road, just north of Poinsettia Street at around 7:50 p.m.
According to the officials, a bike was headed north on Whitewood when it crashed into a Chevrolet SUV that had stopped curbside. This caused the bike to go down on the roadway.
The bicyclist was fatally injured and was pronounced dead at the scene. He has since been identified as 73-year-old Josef Binter. The occupants of the SUV – a woman and her child – were not injured in the collision.
The cause of the fatal crash is still being investigated at this time. It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
