72-year-old Claude Chevis dead, Willis J Curley injured after a crash in St. Landry Parish (St. Landry Parish, LA)

Authorities identified 72-year-old Claude Chevis, of Church Point, as the man who lost his life and 47-year-old Willis J Curley, of Opelousas, as the victim who suffered injuries following a traffic collision on Friday morning in St. Landry Parish.

As per the initial information, officers actively responded to the intersection of LA Hwy 754 and Jessie Richard Road at about 9 a.m. after getting reports of a two-vehicle crash. The early reports showed that a GMC Sierra, driven by Willis J Curley, was heading south on Jessie Richard Road.

On the other hand, a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Claude Chevis was going east on LA Hwy 754. For unknown reasons, Curley did not yield at the stop sign, entered the intersection, and his vehicle got hit on the passenger side by Chevis as the driver tried to cross the intersection.

Claude Chevis suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. Curley sustained moderate injuries in the accident. Both the victims were reportedly buckled up at the time of the collision. Toxicology samples were taken from Curley and Chevis and given for analysis. No other details are immediately available.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
