A 71-year-old pedestrian died after getting struck by a sport-utility vehicle Wednesday in Fremont.
As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian crash took place at around 5:30 p.m. on Driscoll Road and Carmen Street in the city’s Mission San Jose District. According to the authorities, the pedestrian was walking in a bike lane with a bicycle in a southerly direction on the west side of Driscoll Road. The SUV driver, also 71, was driving on southbound Driscoll Road. The driver reportedly veered into the bike lane and hit the pedestrian.
On arrival, emergency responders provided life-saving measures to the victim, but they died at the scene. The SUV driver remained unharmed in the accident. The SUV driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. Impairment was not believed to be a factor on the part of the driver. No further details are available.
The incident remains under investigation.
