On Saturday, 66-year-old Samuel Dismuke Sr., of Nashville, died following a wrong-way crash on I-24 in the Whites Creek area.
As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle accident took place on Interstate 24 West near Lickton Pike at about 2:45 a.m. The preliminary investigation showed that an SUV driven by 32-year-old Kelvin Mejia-Romero crashed into a pickup truck driven by 66-year-old Samuel Dismuke Sr.
Reports further added that Mejia-Romero was driving in the wrong direction on I-24. Samuel Dismuke suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the officials. Mejia-Romero was transported to the hospital with non-fatal injuries.
According to the officers, Mejia-Romero, who has two prior DUI convictions, confessed to having eight or nine beers and also displayed signs of impairment. A blood sample from Mejia-Romero will be analyzed for alcohol content, officers mentioned. Mejia-Romero will be charged with aggravated vehicular homicide after his release. No other details are immediately available.
An investigation is continuing.
