A 66-year-old man lost his life after getting struck by a vehicle early Tuesday morning near Long Beach’s Park Estates neighborhood.
As per the initial information, the fatal traffic accident took place at about 1:51 a.m. along Pacific Coast Highway and Santiago Avenue, an area next to Recreation Park. The preliminary reports showed that the driver of a white van was heading westbound on PCH when he struck the curb line, entered a flowerbed and ran over several large bushes before crashing into a wall.
On arrival, responding officers requested a tow truck to haul away the vehicle. Upon removing the vehicle, officers found an unconscious man who had been pinned underneath the vehicle. The victim, only identified as a 66-year-old man, was declared dead at the scene.
According to the authorities, the victim was sleeping in the bushes when the driver hit him. The driver, who was not identified, stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. Distracted driving, impaired driving and speed did not seem to be involved in the collision. No other details are available.
The accident remains under investigation.
