65-year-old woman dead after a three-vehicle wreck in University Place (University Place, WA)

On Saturday, a 65-year-old woman lost her life following a multi-vehicle accident in University Place.

As per the initial information, the fatal three-vehicle wreck was reported at 5:51 p.m. on the intersection of 35th Street West and Grandview Drive West, a few blocks from Curtis High School. Witnesses informed the officers that an SUV slammed into another vehicle that had slowed for a turn.

The driver of the SUV, reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed, kept going, turned a corner and crashed into a small Sedan stopped at a nearby stop sign. The woman in the Sedan succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The SUV driver, a 21-year-old man, seemed to be impaired by alcohol. He was placed into custody and booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of vehicular homicide. The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. No other details are immediately available.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
