Authorities identified 65-year-old Robert Meza, of Madera, as the man who lost his life following a motorcycle crash Tuesday on Highway 99.
The fatal hit-and-run accident happened at approximately 11:35 a.m. near Avenue 9. According to the investigation reports, Meza was southbound on the highway off-ramp when a car pulled out in front of his motorcycle.
Meza veered to avoid crashing into the car when he failed to maintain control and was thrown from his motorcycle. On arrival, emergency crews airlifted the motorcyclist to Community Regional Medical Center, where he later died of his injuries. Meza was reportedly wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Officers are searching for the involved driver who fled the scene after the accident. According to an eyewitness, it was a white Sedan. Authorities mentioned that the driver might face felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter charges. No other details are made available.
