Authorities identified 64-year-old Leticia Gutierrez de Ordaz as the woman who lost her life following a rollover crash on Interstate 5 in the South Bay this week.
As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle accident took place at about 11 a.m. on northbound I-5 near Coronado Avenue, in San Diego’s Nestor neighborhood. Leticia Gutierrez de Ordaz was the passenger in a truck driven by her husband when he “made a quick lane change” and collided with another vehicle, causing the pickup to flip several times.
The investigation reports showed that as he veered toward a freeway exit, a woman in a Volkswagen Jetta struck the man’s pickup from behind, causing the truck to roll several times. Gutierrez de Ordaz was ejected from the pickup due to the impact.
On arrival, first responders rushed her to the hospital but she was declared dead there a short time later. Her husband and the woman driving the Volkswagen were both injured in the collision, but survived their injuries. Officials believe that drugs and alcohol were not involved in the crash. No other details are available.
An investigation is continuing.
