62-year-old Robert James Sanford dead after a three-vehicle accident on Northwest Side (San Antonio, TX)

Authorities identified 62-year-old Robert James Sanford as the man who lost his life following a multi-vehicle wreck Sunday morning on a Northwest Side street.

The fatal three-vehicle accident took place in the 1100 block of Bandera Road, near Zachry Drive. According to the investigation reports, the man was driving a white van westbound in the eastbound lanes of Bandera when his vehicle crashed into two other vehicles.

The driver of the van, identified as Robert James Sanford, succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. The drivers of the two other vehicles involved sustained serious, but non-fatal injuries. Officers are still investigating why the man was going the wrong way. No other details are made available.

The crash remains under review.
