The California Highway Patrol reported a two-vehicle collision on Friday.
The accident occurred on State Route 78 just before 5 a.m.
According to the officials, a vehicle was driving west on the state route when it entered the eastbound lanes and got into a head-on collision with another vehicle.
The driver of the second vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. He was driving a Honda Civic and was identified to be 62-years-old. The other details pertaining to his identity have not been disclosed pending notification of the family.
The driver of the first vehicle, identified only as a 22-year-old man from Ramona, suffered minor injuries. He declined medical attention.
The officials are investigating the fatal accident.
It is not yet known if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
