The California Highway Patrol reported a motor vehicle crash on Wednesday evening. The accident happened on southbound Highway 1 and Aguajito Road at around 3:30 p.m.
Investigators think that a driver in a silver vehicle—the only description provided—hit a white 1988 Volkswagen van, causing it to overturn.
After being treated at a local hospital, the van’s driver was later declared dead. He is identified as a 62-year-old Carmel man.
According to reports, the driver of the silver car sped away from the collision. It is unsure whether drugs or alcohol were a factor involved in the crash.
The CHP is looking for information about a silver car with significant front-end damage. The fatal crash is being investigated by the officials.
