Larry W. Wagar, 62, of Sedro-Woolley, walked into traffic and was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a semi-trailer. The incident took place on the I5 south of Bellingham on Wednesday morning.
Washington State Patrol reported in a release that around 5 AM, a 32-year-old was driving a 2022 Volvo Tractor TK semi-trailer southbound on I-5 near milepost 225. The victim stepped in the way of traffic, and the truck driver was unable to stop his vehicle in time.
Details of the use of drugs or alcohol are not known at this time. This pedestrian accident caused all lanes of southbound I-5 at Anderson Road in Mount Vernon to be closed.
