The Phoenix Police Department reported a motor vehicle crash on Thursday morning. The accident happened on Interstate 17, close to 24th and Northern Avenues at around 6 a.m. The collision involved two cars and a pedestrian.
According to police, a driver was attempting to turn right onto Northern Avenue while traveling north on the I-17 off-ramp. The driver struck another vehicle after failing to yield to oncoming traffic while turning left at a green light. According to investigators, the negligent driver spun and struck Julian Ibarra, 60, who was standing on the sidewalk. Ibarra was taken to a hospital and later passed away.
Neither of the drivers was intoxicated. Several lanes were blocked around Northern, including the turning lane for the entrance onto the southbound I-17.
The fatal crash is being investigated by the officials.
