The New Mexico State Police reported a motor vehicle crash in Curry County on Thursday. The accident happened close to milepost 6 on N.M 209 at around 11 a.m.
NMDOT employee, 58-year-old Gerald R Woodard was directing traffic in relation to a crash involving a semi-tractor trailer and a passenger car that the Curry County Sheriff’s Department was looking into.
A 69-year-old man was operating a 2014 Dodge Ram when he veered off the road and struck a 2020 NMDOT Ford pickup.
Woodard was inside the truck’s bed, where he died as a result of his injuries. The Dodge driver was airlifted to a Lubbock hospital after being taken from the scene in critical condition.
The crash is not thought to have been caused by alcohol, and seat belts was not worn correctly. The New Mexico State Police continue to look into this fatal crash.
