58-year-old Debra Jones dead after a pedestrian crash in Marietta (Marietta, GA)

On Tuesday night, a vehicle hit and killed 58-year-old Debra Jones in Marietta.

As per the initial information, the fatal pedestrian accident took place near the Shell gas station at 2365 Delk Road at about 8:50 p.m. The preliminary investigation revealed that the woman, from Marietta, was walking with her 2 elementary school-aged grandchildren and was trying to cross Delk Road outside of a crosswalk when she was hit.

The grandchildren remained uninjured. Jones was rushed to WellStar Kennestone Hospital where she was later declared dead. The driver fled from the scene after hitting the woman. 63-year-old Howard Arden of Dunwoody called the police department around 30 minutes after the accident and informed that he may have struck something or someone on Delk Road with his 2013 Kia Sorento, which was damaged.

Dunwoody police assisted Marietta Police and arrested Arden. He was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on the charge of Felony Hit and Run. Further charges may be added, officials stated.
