A 57-year-old woman received serious injuries after a two-vehicle accident Wednesday evening in the Torrey Highlands area of San Diego.
As per the initial information, the bicycle crash took place at around 5:25 p.m. near the bottom of the exit from east state Route 56 to Camino Del Sur, in a crossing for the SR-56 Bike Trail. The early reports showed that an 80-year-old man driving a Volvo XC90 SUV was turning right from the freeway exit onto Camino Del Sur when he hit the bicyclist.
The cyclist was in a crosswalk dedicated to a protected bike trail when the incident happened. The victim, only identified as a 57-year-old woman, suffered serious injuries that included fractures of her pelvis and fifth lumbar vertebrae. The injuries were not considered to be life-threatening. No other details available.
The incident remains under investigation.
