A 57-year-old man lost his life after getting hit by an overturned vehicle Sunday on a San Diego-area freeway.
As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian crash took place at around 3:15 p.m. on westbound Interstate 8 near Waring Road. The preliminary reports showed that a 57-year-old San Diego man was walking in the traffic lanes of westbound Interstate 8.
A woman driving a white Mercedes-Benz sedan reportedly saw the man walking on the freeway and applied her brakes in an effort to avoid striking him. At that point of time, a woman driving a white Chevrolet SUV rear-ended the Mercedes, causing the Chevrolet to roll over and hit the male pedestrian.
The man was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet incurred only minor injuries, while the Mercedes driver remained unharmed in the accident. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision. It is also unclear why the man was walking on the freeway lanes. No further details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
