56-year-old woman in critical condition after being hit by a pickup in Carlsbad (Carlsbad, CA)

A 56-year-old woman was left in critical condition after being hit by a pickup truck early Thursday morning on a Carlsbad thoroughfare.

As per the initial information, the pedestrian accident took place just after 5 a.m. on Rancho Santa Fe Road close to Melrose Drive. The early reports showed that a pickup truck driven by a 40-year-old Riverside man was heading south in the far left lane on Rancho Santa Fe when it struck the woman.

The injured woman, a San Marcos resident, was rushed to a hospital. The southbound lanes of Rancho Santa Fe were closed down for several hours during the investigation. The identity of the victim remains undisclosed at this time. No other details are available.

The incident remains under review.
