56-year-old Tonya Sorrels dead after being hit by a train in Harlem (Harlem, GA)

Authorities identified 56-year-old Tonya Sorrels as the woman who lost her life after getting struck by a train Thursday afternoon in Harlem.

Officers actively responded to the area of North Hicks Street, west of Barrett Street near Sawdust Road at about 4:45 p.m. in response to a pedestrian accident. The early reports showed that the Harlem woman was walking on the CSX tracks when she was hit by the train.

The pedestrian, identified as Tonya Sorrels died of her injuries after the collision. Columbia County Sheriff’s Office provided assistance at the scene. No other details have been provided by the authorities.

The incident remains under investigation.
