Authorities identified 53-year-old Raymond Elam, from Kings Beach, as the man who lost his life following a rear-end collision Tuesday in Tahoe City.
The fatal traffic accident took place on California State Route 28, west of Grove Street. The investigation reports showed that the 2020 Yamaha Accumax golf cart, being driven by Elam, was hit from behind by a 2018 Honda HRV driven by 33-year-old Brandon Norling, of Tahoe City.
The officers actively responded to the scene at 6:23 a.m. Tuesday. The reports also revealed that Norling was driving westbound on California State Route 28 directly behind Elam in a white utility bed golf cart belonging to the Tahoe City Downtown Association.
Norling approached the golf cart at an unknown speed and failed to realize the golf cart was in the lane directly in front of him. Norling could not slow down and stop to avoid the collision and the front end hit the rear of the golf cart. Due to the impact, Elam was thrown from the golf cart and received major injuries.
Raymond Elam died of blunt force trauma. He was not buckled up at the time of the collision. Drugs or alcohol did not seem be involved in the crash, and no arrests were made. According to the officials, if charges are brought forward they would be sent to the Placer County District Attorney’s Office for review. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
