A 53-year-old man lost his life after a traffic collision at 10:48 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 90 near S. Zarzamora.
An eyewitness reported to the authorities that the victim had been in a vehicle speeding with the headlights off when he attempted to change lanes, but failed to maintain control of the vehicle in the exit lane and struck a metal road barrier head-on.
The witness stopped and put out the car fire using a portable extinguisher before the arrival of firefighters. The impact caused two other vehicles to crash, but no one was reportedly injured in both the vehicles. The driver who hit the wall divider was declared deceased at the scene. Police closed down the expressway for a few hours while crews worked at the scene. No other details are available.
