52-year-old Jose Caratachea-Valencia died after a crash in Fresno County (Fresno County, CA)

Authorities identified 52-year-old Jose Caratachea-Valencia, from Selma, as the man who lost his life following a traffic collision Monday in Fresno County.

The fatal car accident took place just before 3 am Monday on Elm and North in Fresno County. The preliminary reports showed that the big rig driver was pulling into a driveway when a 2010 Mercury slammed into the side of his trailer.

The reports also revealed that Caratachea-Valencia was going about 100 miles an hour and failed to stop in time. The car got lodged beneath the trailer following the crash. Officers believe that Caratachea-Valencia might have been drinking. The coroner’s office will conduct toxicology tests to confirm if alcohol was involved in the wreck. No other information is available.

An investigation is ongoing.
