On Thursday morning, 51-year-old Roger Freels lost his life after getting hit by a vehicle in downtown Nashville.
As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian crash took place on Demonbreun Street just after 4:30 a.m. The preliminary investigation showed that a Dodge Charger hit Roger Freels for undetermined reasons. On arrival, paramedics rushed Freels to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The 37-year-old driver of the Charger informed the officers that he was turning left onto Interstate 40 East and failed to see Freels until he struck him. Officials believe that Freels was walking through the intersection of Demonbreun Street and 13th Avenue South when he got hit by the vehicle.
The driver did not appear to be speeding, impaired or distracted during the accident and will not be charged. Authorities shut down the area between 12th Avenue and 14th Avenue for most of Thursday morning. The entrance to the interstate in the area was also blocked as crews worked at the scene. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the officers. No other details are available.
The incident remains under investigation.
