On Thursday afternoon, a 51-year-old man, from Tacoma, lost his life following a multi-vehicle accident in Kent.
As per the initial information, the fatal three-vehicle wreck took place on Interstate 5 near the State Route 516 exit at about 3:45 p.m. The preliminary investigation indicated that a Ford Fusion, driven by a 51-year-old man, was traveling slowly on I-5’s northbound shoulder when the driver tried to merge into the right lane.
At some point of time, a semi-truck crashed into the Fusion and forced it into the adjacent lane, where it got struck by another semi-truck. The driver of the Ford Fusion died of his injuries at the scene. The driver of the second semi-truck was provided medical aid for minimal injuries, and the first semi-truck’s driver remained unharmed in the accident.
After the crash, the drivers of the semi-trucks managed to move to the interstate’s right shoulder. The wrecked Ford Fusion ended up in the road and blocked traffic in the first two lanes from the right. The lanes were shut down for just over three hours. Both semi-truck drivers were buckled up at the time of the wreck. It is unclear if the deceased was wearing his seatbelt at that time. Officials said that drugs and alcohol were not involved in the wreck. No other details are available.
The crash remains under investigation.
