Authorities identified 51-year-old Kent J Wosepka as the Boston College professor who lost his life while Elizabeth A O’Brien and Barbara A Ferrell were left with serious injuries following a crash in Texas.
The investigation reports showed that 51-year-old Kent J Wosepka, of South Hamilton, was one of three bicyclists struck by a 2014 Ford Escape just after 11:05 a.m. Saturday on Farm-to-Market 787, which is about 3 miles east of Rye, Texas.
The reports further revealed that the driver of the Ford, identified as 60-year-old Michael J Weaver of Votaw, Texas, failed to maintain control of his speed and crashed into the bicyclists. Wosepka was airlifted via a medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont with critical injuries. He was declared deceased by a doctor at around 1:20 p.m. Sunday.
Elizabeth A O’Brien, also of South Hamilton, Massachusetts, and Barbara A Ferrell of Santa Rosa, California were the other two bicyclist who got struck by the vehicle. They are currently listed in serious condition. O’Brien was flown to St. Elizabeth Hospital while Ferrell was airlifted to Kingwood Emergency Hospital.
An investigation is ongoing.
