Louisiana State Police Troop I is investigating a hit-and-run crash on Louisiana Highway 96 westbound near Capritto Forty Arpent Road in St. Martin Parish.
The victim was identified as 49-year-old Chester J. Thibeaux of Lafayette.
A preliminary investigation reveals Thibeaux was walking westbound and was struck by an unknown vehicle. The car driver fled the scene after the collision. The unknown vehicle is determined to be a dark sedan with right front area damage.
At 9:45 a.m., troopers were notified about the driver and arrested him on several charges. The driver, James Celestine, was driving a 2014 Nissan Maxima. He admitted to striking something in the roadway.
Blood samples were taken and sent for further analysis. The pedestrian crash remains under investigation.
