49-year-old Alicia D Smith dead after a crash in Lake Charles (Lake Charles, LA)

On Sunday, 49-year-old Alicia D Smith lost her life following a single-vehicle accident in Lake Charles.

As per the initial information, the fatal car crash took place near the intersection of N. Perkins Ferry Road and US 171 at about 6 a.m. The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, Alicia D Smith, a Lake Charles woman, was going in a curve on N. Perkins Ferry Road when her SUV drifted off the road. Smith was ejected from the vehicle as she was not wearing a seatbelt at that time.

She was transported to a local hospital where she was later declared dead. Speed is believed to have contributed to the accident. Officials believe that damages to the car during the wreck caused it to catch fire. Toxicology testing mandated by state law will be performed. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
