48-year-old Stephanie Smith dead after a head-on collision near Orange (Orange, TX)

Authorities identified 48-year-old Stephanie Smith, of Louisiana, as the woman who lost her life following a head-on collision on Tuesday night near Orange.

As per the initial information, the fatal two-vehicle crash took place just after 11:30 p.m. on State Highway 62, a little more than a mile north of Orange. The preliminary investigation showed that a 2017 Ford passenger car was heading south, while a 2011 Ford passenger car was going north.

For unknown reasons, the 2017 Ford went into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into the 2011 Ford. The driver of the 2017 Ford suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by a Justice of the Peace. She was later identified as 48-year-old Stephanie Smith. The driver of the 2011 Ford was transported to an area hospital in unknown condition. No further details were provided.

An investigation is ongoing.
