48-year-old Rene Kelly dead after a hit-and-run collision in Mission District, driver wanted (San Francisco, CA)

Authorities identified 48-year-old Rene Kelly as the pedestrian who died after being hit by a vehicle Tuesday morning in San Francisco’s Mission District.

The fatal hit-and-run crash took place at about 4:36 a.m. on South Van Ness Avenue and 16th Street. The preliminary reports showed that a man was crossing the street at the intersection of South Van Ness Avenue and 16th Street when a driver went through a red light and struck him.

The driver then left the scene, driving north on South Van Ness. On arrival, responders found Rene Kelly with traumatic injuries. Despite the life-saving efforts, Kelly succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Officials did not release a description of the suspect or the hit-and-run vehicle. No other details are available.

The incident remains under active review.
