Authorities identified 48-year-old Donavar Yancy, of Abbeville, as the man who lost his life following a single-vehicle accident on Sunday morning in New Iberia.
As per the initial information, the fatal car crash was reported moments after 1 a.m. on Darnall Road just north of US Highway 90 in Iberia Parish. The preliminary reports showed that a 2016 Mercedes was traveling west on US 90 West Frontage Road when the driver failed to negotiate a curve.
After that, the vehicle drifted off the roadway and rolled multiple times. The car ended up on its roof near the center of the road. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Donavar Yancy, suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office.
Reports further revealed that the man was ejected from the car as he was not buckled up at the time of the collision. Toxicology samples were taken for analysis. No other details are immediately available.
The crash remains under review.
