Authorities identified 47-year-old Araceli Gonzalez-DeSaldivar, of Clovis, as the woman who lost her life and 44-year-old Ysmael Dominguez-Vazquez, of Clovis, N.M., who suffered injuries following a traffic collision on Sunday in Deaf Smith County.
As per the initial information, the fatal single-vehicle crash took place at about 2:50 a.m. on US 60. The preliminary investigation indicated that a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 being driven by Araceli Gonzalez-DeSaldivar, was traveling westbound on US 60 in the inside lane. The pickup truck swerved off the roadway and went into the center median for undetermined reasons.
Gonzalez-DeSaldivar tried to get back on the roadway but failed to maintain control of the vehicle. The vehicle slid sideways back across the westbound lanes and off the north side of the roadway, where it flipped over several times. Both the occupants of the pickup truck were ejected as they were not buckled up at that time.
Gonzalez-DeSaldivar suffered major injuries and was declared dead at the scene by Deaf Smith County Acting Justice of the Peace Alma Mancinas. A passenger, Ysmael Dominguez-Vazquez, was rushed to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital with non-fatal injuries. The posted speed limit was 75 mph, and road conditions were dry with high winds at the time of crash. No other details are made available.
The crash remains under investigation.
