46-year-old man dead after an auto-pedestrian collision on I-5 in Encinitas (Encinitas, CA)

On late Sunday night, a 46-year-old man, from Solana Beach, lost his life after being hit by a vehicle while he was walking on Interstate 5 in Encinitas.

As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian crash took place at approximately 11:50 p.m. on north I-5 approaching Santa Fe Drive. The preliminary investigation indicated that the pedestrian was walking in the second lane from the left when he got struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the Jeep, a 50-year-old man from Los Angeles County, stayed at the scene and remained unharmed in the accident. Officials believe that he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision.

Authorities shut down parts of the roadway until around 2:30 a.m. Monday as crews worked at the scene. The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. No other details are made available.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
