44-Year-Old Barry Smith Killed In A Multi-Vehicle Accident In Jasper County (Jasper County, TX)

In a tragic multi-vehicle accident on Saturday, a 44-year-old Burkeville man, identified as Barry Smith, lost his life in the south end of Jasper County. The fatal crash occurred just after 11:00 AM on Highway 96 near County Road 773, located on the south side of Buna.

According to Sergeant Shana Clark of the Texas Department of Public Safety, Smith, driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck southbound, veered off the highway and collided with a pole.

Subsequently, his vehicle crossed into the northbound lane, where it was struck by a GMC Sierra pickup truck.

Smith was critically injured and was rushed to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for treatment. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival and was pronounced dead.

Fortunately, the driver of the GMC, 68-year-old Robert Booker from Kirbyville, emerged unscathed. The collision is still being investigated.
