On Wednesday morning, a 42-year-old woman suffered injuries after being hit by a vehicle in Merced.
As per the initial information, the auto-pedestrian crash took place at 5:42 a.m. on Whitewater Way and Narvaez Way, southeast of McKee Road and Yosemite Avenue. The preliminary investigation indicated that the woman jogged west along Narvaez Way when for unknown reasons, she ran out directly in front of a Dodge Ram truck going south on Whitewater Way and got struck.
Officials said that a stop sign controls Narvaez Way at the intersection but Whitewater Way does not have any stop signs. On arrival, emergency crews airlifted the pedestrian to a Modesto area trauma center with serious but non-fatal injuries. Reports added that she had numbness to part of her body and had a major laceration to her head.
The driver of the Dodge, 29-year-old Syed Sarwar Jr., of Merced, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. Officers believe that drugs or alcohol were not involved in the accident. No further details were provided.
The incident remains under review.
