Authorities identified 41-year-old Jesus Tamayo, from Compton, as the man who lost his life following a traffic collision last week in the Gaviota area.
The fatal crash took place on Thursday in the northbound lanes of Highway 101 just south of Calle Mariposa Reina a little before 5 a.m. According to the officials, Tamayo was driving the speed limit when the vehicle struck a group of trees.
Tamayo was declared dead at the scene. No other passengers were inside the truck at the time of the wreck. The northbound lanes of the highway were shut down in the area for more than five hours during the investigation and cleanup. No further details are available.
The crash remains under investigation.
