On Wednesday night, 41-year-old Eddie Cooper, a resident of Waycross, lost his life while 49-year-old Stacy Ramsey, a resident of Marietta, and 36-year-old Brian Gilbert, a resident of Gainesville, suffered injuries after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 985 in the Gainesville area.
Officers reported that Cooper was traveling northbound on I-985, just north of Candler Road in a commercial vehicle, a 2017 Peterbilt 320, in the right lane. A second vehicle, a 2004 Ford F350, was heading in the left lane, at about 7 p.m. The commercial vehicle, driven by Cooper, had a tire failure and he lost control swerving to the left.
The commercial vehicle crashed into the Ford F350 and then smashed through the left guardrail, going down an embankment and coming to an uncontrolled stop. The impact pinned both Cooper and Ramsey in the commercial vehicle and they had to be freed from the vehicle and required hospitalization.
Cooper later died of his injuries at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. The second driver, Brian Gilbert was provided medical aid at the scene for minor injuries. No charges are expected to be filed as of this moment.
An investigation is underway.
