On Sunday night, a 40-year-old woman, from Hillsboro, Oregon, lost her life following a multi-vehicle accident in Federal Way.
The fatal three-vehicle pile-up took place at about 6:40 p.m. on I-5 near South 304th Street. According to the investigation reports, the 40-year-old woman was driving a Dodge Ram north when her vehicle crashed into a Mazda Protege and began to spin. The Dodge then collided with a Kia Forte and both vehicles went off Interstate 5 onto Military Road South below.
Due to the impact, the woman was ejected from her vehicle when she hit a tree. She was not buckled up at the time of the wreck. The 40-year-old woman died of her injuries after the crash. The identity of the deceased will be revealed once the next of kin is notified. On the other hand, the Kia Forte rolled and ended up upside down on Military Road South.
On arrival, emergency crews took the driver of the Kia Forte, a 60-year-old Tacoma man, to Harborview Medical Center with minimal injuries. The Mazda stopped on the shoulder of Interstate 5. Passengers in the Mazda, a 44-year-old Seattle man, a 14-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl, remained unharmed. The accident was caused by an unsafe lane change and drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
