On Friday night, 40-year-old Shakena Bates lost her life after being hit by a vehicle while officers arrested 34-year-old Danilo Barrow who initially left the scene after the collision.
As per the initial information, the fatal hit-and-run crash took place on Franklin Gateway, just south of Delk Road, at about 11:30 p.m. The early reports showed that Shakena Bates was walking along Franklin Gateway when a car struck her and fled the scene without stopping. Officers stated that Danilo Barrow was arrested after police located the red Dodge Challenger he was reportedly driving in the parking lot of a hotel on Northwest Parkway.
Authorities used proof at the scene to determine the car’s make and range of models. In addition to DUI and hit-and-run, Barrow faces vehicular homicide, failure to maintain lane and driving without insurance. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
