39-year-old Robert Jenkins Jr. was left in a hospital after a single-vehicle crash on East Gov. John Sevier Highway, near the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, as per Knox County Rescue.
According to the initial information, the incident was reported at about 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, close to the French Broad River. One of two lanes on the eastbound side of the road was blocked, officials said.
The preliminary investigation of the crash showed that a 2005 Honda CRV swerved off the road on the right side, struck a concrete pipe and went flying. It then landed, began overturning and eventually came to a stop at the right side of the road.
The crash involved only one car, according to officials. Authorities identified the injured man as Robert Jenkins Jr., a resident of Knoxville. Authorities have not released any additional details pertaining to the accident.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
