39-year-old Maranda J Bond and 2 others injured after a two-vehicle collision on Hannegan Road (Whatcom County, WA)

On Wednesday, a two-vehicle accident hospitalized 39-year-old Maranda J Bond, a resident of Sumas, and two others on Hannegan Road.

First responders were sent to the intersection of Hannegan and Ten Mile Roads at around 8:45pm after getting the news of an injury crash. According to the officials, a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox crashed into the passenger side of a black 1998 Honda Civic that had failed to yield at a stop sign.

WSP determined that the Honda with a driver and 2 passengers was heading eastbound on Ten Mile Road when it did not yield at the stop sign and was hit by the northbound Chevrolet with a driver and a passenger. The incident took place in a 50mph section of Hannegan Road.

On arrival, medics took all the occupants of the Honda to PeaceHealth St Joseph’s Medical Center for treatment. 1 of the 3, a juvenile, was airlifted from St Joseph’s to Harborview Medical Center with major injuries. It is unknown at this time whether anyone in the Honda had been wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

The 2 people in the Chevrolet were not hurt and were properly restrained. Both vehicles were considered total losses and were dragged from the accident scene. As of now, authorities believe that drugs or alcohol have not played a role in the crash and the driver of the Honda, identified as Maranda J Bond, will be charged with reckless driving, driving with a revoked license and driving without insurance.

An investigation is ongoing.
