38-year-old man killed after an auto-pedestrian crash in Modesto (Modesto, CA)

A 38-year-old man lost his life after getting struck by a vehicle Thursday morning in Modesto.

As per the initial information, the fatal auto-pedestrian crash took place before 3 a.m. on Highway 99, south of Kansas Avenue. The preliminary reports showed that the man was walking in the center median of the northbound freeway while a Nissan Murano was approaching in the fast lane.

For unknown reasons, the pedestrian suddenly walked directly into the way of the vehicle and got hit. The Modesto man died of his injuries at the scene. The Nissan driver, only identified as a 24-year-old Modesto resident, remained unharmed in the accident.

The driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol when the incident happened. The officers are trying to find out if the pedestrian was under the influence of either drugs or alcohol when he walked into the traffic. No other details are available.

An investigation is ongoing.
