A 38-year-old bicyclist died after being hit by a drunk driver in north Houston on early Monday. That driver has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault, according to HPD.
Authorities confirmed that Ronald Ariel Sariles, 24, had been drinking when he hit and killed a man at 3100 West Little York Road at about 2:15 a.m. The investigation reports showed that Sariles was traveling at a high rate of speed and swerving when his vehicle struck the bicycle, despite a working red flashing light mounted on the rear.
Sariles then could not maintain control of his vehicle which collided with a power pole and brick wall before it rolled over. A 19-year-old passenger was thrown from the vehicle due to the impact. Sariles and the passenger were rushed to an area hospital with non-critical injuries. No other details are available.
An investigation is ongoing.
